The traditional Start line for the GMPE is also the Finish line for 2021
The 2021 Challenge map has been modified to adjust for this year's Start/Finish Line.
Well, Mother Nature has decided to add an extra challenge to this year's paddle. Due to the large amount of rain that has happened recently, the water flow on the North and South Branches of the Muskoka River has increased - a LOT. The North Branch is starting to drop in flow and should be coming down to normal levels this week. However the South Branch is still producing an extremely strong current and won't be dropping down until at least the end of the week. So due to safety concerns, this year's 20 km race will consist of doing two passes down and back on the main branch of the Muskoka River. This has also created another (smaller) challenge for us. We won't be able to set out the traditional turn around buoys. Below are pictures of landmarks that will be the 5 & 10 km. turning points. Each one stands out easily as you're paddling on the river and present safe areas for turns. Please turn as you pass the end of their docks - this will result in true distances of 5 & 10 km.
